Project Home

This project, currently dubbed 'UWS Open', is an umbrella project for open source projects created by students and graduates from University of West of Scotland (or University of Paisley as it was previously known as). The umbrella project includes the development and maintenance of this website which runs on the open source 'Redmine' software.

Students (and graduates) are free to sign up for this site to contribute to its development and to the development of the individual projects.

An initial 'Test' project was going to be used, but has been rejected by SourceForge. This was the plan ...

New users are given developer status on the 'Test' project, allowing them to familiarise themselves with the way the projects are run, and Source Control Management (SCM). Once they understand the concepts of SCM and can put them into practise, they can then request to be added to an existing project, or create and manage one of their own.

Instead, we will just have to start the actual projects and help out those that need it along the way, through tutorials on the wiki pages (as below) and posts on the forums.

Source Control Management isn't specifically covered on the UWS computing courses, so let us begin by going over some basics about what SCM is, what it is for, and how to use it ...
